Discover Catembe and Surrounds

Catembe is best discovered on foot. Just step out of the hotel, pass through the village and head to the “pantano” (wetlands) from where you can see extraordinary bird life against the backdrop of Maputo´s skyline.

An easy way to soak up Maputo´s unique Afro-Latin atmosphere is to join a half-day tour that includes the fortress, historic city centre, railway station, central market, city hall, museum of natural history and the new art market FEIMA, where you can do some curio shopping in a secure environment.

Special interest tours such as the art deco walk taking in the works of Pancho Guedes – a renowned architect who shaped Maputo´s cityscape in the 1950s and 60s – can also be arranged. For those who wish to venture further afield, there is a choice of day trips and private charters to Xefina, Inhaca and Portuguese Islands as well as the Maputo Special Reserve (aka Elephant Reserve).
